FAQ

What about this HAMFEST ? Who is putting it on ? Do you have to be a member of a club to come ? What about the 5 dollars spaces ? I am a little confused by all of the "bright lights " ! Just what is going on ?

Don't feel like you are the only one. There has been some confusion about all of this. First of all, we, The AWA are putting on this HamFest. Actually it is our way of inviting the Ham Radio Operators to visit our Convention. No, you do not have to be a member of any club, even ours, to attend. And yes, it is free on Saturday. The 5 dollar spaces will be spaces not sold/occupied as of Saturday morning. So there is no guarantee of what will actually be open for use. You will just have to come and see. Many of our regular sellers are hams, but some are not. They are very excited to meet new folks. They want to swap and trade just like anyone else. Bright lights ? Well, we do a bit of that, but it is all in fun. And it's on the up and up too! And we need to say that we are not affiliated with any other club or organization.

I an arriving on Tuesday. Since the Flea market does not begin until Thursday, where and when can I set up ?

Tent spaces will not be available until after the Tent Party. Other spaces will be available but selling is not permitted until Thursday morning. For those not pre-registered, spaces will not be open until Thursday morning.

I want to sell in the Flea Market. I have heard that computers are not permitted. IS this true and if so why ?

Yes it is true. Computers have their place, but it is not here. It is alright to have one or two computers as part of your Flea MArket sales but we are not allowing large liquidators to register.

I understand that this year Registration materials are being mailed ahead of time.

Yes, If we receive your registration by August 8, we will mail your tickets back to you. Please make sure that we have your correct address!

I was told if I leave my flea Market space on Friday that on Saturday morning someone else can occupy it. Is this true ?

Yes, Any unoccupied spaces are available for reassignment on Saturday morning. We hope you will stay for the Saturday event as there will be many new buyers

I have heard that if I do not pre-register my Flea Market space will not be assigned.

Yes, if you are not pre-registered just enter the Flea Market and take any unassigned space. The old method was too time consuming. We will send collectors out to obtain payment for spaces. Of course you are much better off pre-registering.

I Noticed that the Flea Market has been scheduled to begin On Thursday instead of Tuesday or Wednesday. Why ?

Our Flea Market promises to be a huge event this year. We need the space on Wednesday night under the tent. But after that , it's open for business! Remember on Saturday the Convention is open to all and Rochester/Fingerlakes area Hams will be setting up for the AWA/RARA ARRL sanctioned Hamfest !

I would like to renew my AWA membership using PAYPAL. The link has disappeared, is this still available ?

Yes, but it has been moved to The Club Web Site, antiquewireless.org. You will be able to renew on the Convention Site again when we open officially for business.

You have changed the date, again. Why?

We went back to an earlier start because folks wanted to travel on Sunday.

I am a Book Seller. Last year I had to packup and move out all of my things by 4:00 Pm on Saturday. Will that happen in 2010

No it will not. This year we have reserved all of the space of the RIT Inn and no other event is scheduled. The Book Fair will be held in it's traditional spot and will run continuously throughout the Convention.

I am a Flea Market vender. I will be coming on Tuesday. May I set up and sell.

Flea Market officially opens at 6:30 Am on Thursday. You may set up your vehicle and tables ahead of time (after the Wednesday night party) We invite you to spend Tuesday and Wednesday attending the Larry Babcock Auction, attending Parties, the AWA Museum Trip, general fellowship, forums and The Book Fair. It will be a great way to see some of the other aspects of the Convention that you may not have seen much of before.
