NEWS

Each Month Richard Neidich prepares a internal newsletter reporting what is happening at the AWA Museum. This Newsletter in not restricted and is presented here as a service of the AWA Convention. Mr. Neidich is the chairman of the Members Services Committee of The AWA.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Week of May 4 - Clean up details of Spring Meet, continue photographing of telegraph and ham room items

Week of May 11 - Clean out of Bldg 2, bays 2 & 3 to allow these areas to be finished with HVAC and internal doors, for RC of A Archives. (The actual move of the materials from New Jersey should occur during the latter part of June according to Bob Hobday.)

Week of May 18 - Move of Millen Transmitter, TMC transmitter, RCA diversity receiver and Navy TBL. These were among the largest and heaviest items to move from the old annex.

Week of May 25 - Finished photography of telegraph items.  Move of plastic cabinet table radios to Building #3, and start on military items. Picked up large donation of Stromberg Carlson military equipment.  This required the use of Joe Granica's 16' foot trailer to hold it all.

Other News Items:

Bob Hobday reports that Building #3 has now been filled. To hold the remaining Annex materials, a storage container has been acquired to hold the remaining items. Moving of materials continues. Bob indicates that Board Members should be receiving a draft of the May Board meeting minutes soon for their review and potential comment.

Ed Gable and his team of Membership Service tellers reported that over 300 renewal notice were prepared and sent this quarter. Those paying by PayPal are making the renewal process somewhat easier, there for members are being encouraged to use this method. The team is also recording e-mail address updates in the membership database. In the future it is hoped that this information can reduce postage expenses of the AWA.

Roy Wildermuth reports the Rochester ham fest went well. Warren W., Dave and Sue Waterstradt, Bill Hopkins, Ron Roach, Ron Walker and Joe G. participated. "We had a station running using my Collins KWM-380 and an excellent antenna that Bill H and I put up on Friday afternoon. They located us in a large tent this year with RARA on one side and RC of A on the other."

Roy W has “opened” the Convention Web Site to accept registrations for this years gathering. Complete details will be included in the July issue of the AWA Journal. He has also established a Skype with camera at the Media Center (Building #2) which permits free calling. Since it is not routinely monitor, always make an appointment if you wish to utilize the capability. Search on Skype for “AWA Museum Media Center”.

Marc Ellis reports the July (Convention) Issue of the Journal is now being completed and should go out soon. Marc and Richard Neidich are developing concepts and plans to provide options for expanding the AWA Journal’s scope and audience (at minimum additional cost) next year. Options are to be presented as part of next year’s budgeting activities. During the May meeting weekend, Richard took a number of pictures of the current move status and existing Museum displays for use in the development of a advertising flyer for distribution at radio related events and use as a paid advertising page.

Note to Recipients:

The informal “newsletter” is based upon what is reported to me. As always, input should be sent to this e-mail address by the end of each month. The contents are based upon the information provided and should not to be seen as an official AWA publication.
